In the early 90s, as a young trainee stone carver, Dan David was hugely influenced by the period’s dynamism, which saw him traveling to raves in fields, warehouses and squats throughout the UK and Europe. And, as with many others then questioning the status quo, he was deeply affected by the political atmosphere, actively participating in the Anti Criminal Justice Bill march. We are bringing a series of Dan’s sculptures to Houghton Hall this year that mark this important piece of social history. This size 9, Nike trainer is carved in sandstone from the Forest of Dean. Come and see more of Dan David’s sculptures in our pop up at Houghton Hall this summer.
