This series is part of an ongoing exploration of Stiffkey marsh mud as a ceramic material. Collected and later processed in the studio, Ella Porter has been using the marsh mud as an addition to her ceramic glazes. The subtle hues of green/blue tint in this glaze allow the clay body to peep through beneath its surface mimicking qualities of water weaving through muddy banks of the marshy landscape. Through the alchemy of kiln firing subtle qualities of this unique landscape are distilled and fixed within the surface of the object, and in turn the objects become a souvenir of place for the home.
