This portrait was the result of an impromptu sitting before a night out. In the moment, I wanted to capture the beautiful composition of July’s stance and observe uncategorised beauty, particularly in the context of today’s discussion surrounding gender and self expression. 

Please note: This has been entered into the Herbert Smith Freehills, Portrait Award 2024 held at The National Portrait Gallery, London. You can still bbuy this work but it ill be required for the exhibition at the NPG London for display.

“I am a 21 year old self taught painter based in North Norfolk and Norwich. I’ve always been drawing and creating, but it wasn’t until I completed my A-Levels in 2019 that I began practicing art professionally, taking on commissioned work and exhibiting locally. I’ve been fortunate enough to have won numerous awards since, including the Sworders’ Art Prize for Emerging Artists, the Sir John Hurt Art Prize (Highly Commended) and the John Dalton: Gently Does It Art Prize. Last November I appeared on Sky Arts’ Portrait Artist of the Year, where my painting of rapper and TV personality Big Zuu was shortlisted by the judges."
