Unusually I have not visited. John Allan, who was designated to oversee the transformation of this building into an arts venue, gave me access to his photographs. The funding collapsed, the Catholic Church in Scotland withdrew its involvement, and so this became one of two ‘ruin’ paintings. In conversation at a false ending to my painting, a curator remarked how baroque it seemed in its qualities. This was new to me, and I rather had it in mind as I developed further the ground floor space of rubble, abandon and decay to its present conclusion.
