Originally working as a printmaker, gaining a BA in printmaking, Claire Cansick has taught herself to paint over many years. She finds the endless possibilities of oil paint a great challenge, which in turn motivates experimentation upon the painted surface.
Nature is the only consistent theme running through Claire's work. She tends to paint on wooden panel as well as canvas in a non-formulaic way, following a train of thought that gives her work coherence. She does not repeat images but does re-visit her subjects expanding upon similar ideas or colours. She exhibits a quiet confidence in these powerful canvases. Clare says of her approach:
'Motivation to create comes from a desire to relate to others on a deeper level, something I can’t seem to put into words as I’m quite an introvert and I have been told my lone figures that sometimes enter my landscapes express that.'
