Fliss Cary

Fliss Cary is an artist whose practice is concerned with drawing, printmaking and artists’ books.
Cary works in response to the landscape, in particular to her location on the outskirts of Norwich where the urban sprawl morphs into a rural idyll. This is an area she walks daily with her dog, making drawings in small sketch books on route, which become source material for studio work.
Her current search for a correspondence between the patterns and rhythms in nature and the haptic physicality of mark making, has found its focus in the profusion of hedgerows growing in and around her home.
Fliss feels constantly moved by the fragility of nature and its resilience in the face of increasing urbanisation and is concerned by the prevailing threat to her shared habitat posed by the wider environmental issues of the day.
